In a dramatic pursuit, police drove into the emergency ward of AIIMS Rishikesh on Tuesday to arrest a nursing officer accused of sexually harassing a woman doctor, as shown in a viral video. The unusual scene unfolded with the police car navigating through the crowded ward, lined with patients on either side. Security personnel cleared the path, moving stretchers with patients to make way for the vehicle, which sped forward with several officers inside.
The accused, nursing officer Satish Kumar, allegedly harassed the woman doctor inside an operation theatre at the esteemed medical facility. Kumar, now suspended, also purportedly sent an obscene SMS to the doctor, according to Rishikesh police officer Shankar Singh Bisht, as reported by PTI.
The incident ignited outrage among the hospital’s doctors, leading them to strike and protest outside the dean’s office, demanding Kumar’s dismissal. The doctors also filed a complaint with the police.
Faced with a large number of protesting doctors, the police decided to drive into the hospital to apprehend Satish Kumar. Another video shows police officers surrounded by protesting doctors as they escort the accused into the car.
The doctors, chanting slogans, insisted that mere suspension was insufficient for the severity of Kumar’s actions and called for his immediate dismissal. Although emergency services continue to operate at AIIMS Rishikesh, doctors have been on strike since Tuesday.
