Amidst Potential Arrest, Delhi CM Kejriwal Convenes MLA Meeting

Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, has called an assembly meeting with Aam Aadmi Party MLAs on November 6. This gathering comes amid speculation of potential legal action by central agencies in connection with the Delhi Liquor Scam.

The meeting is scheduled to occur at the Delhi assembly complex, and its specific agenda remains unclear. There is anticipation of important decisions being made regarding the AAP and the AAP-led government in Delhi. On November 2, the Enforcement Directorate summoned Kejriwal in connection with the alleged scam, but he chose not to appear, citing discrepancies in the summons. Instead, he joined Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Madhya Pradesh to campaign for the Assembly Elections.

Arvind Kejriwal was summoned by ED on 2nd November but he did not appear

There is a possibility that the Enforcement Directorate will issue fresh summons to Kejriwal in the near future. Several other AAP leaders and Kejriwal’s associates, including Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, have already faced arrests by central agencies investigating the Liquor Scam. Sisodia has been in custody since February, and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was recently arrested for alleged involvement in money laundering related to the liquor scam.

The Delhi Liquor Policy for 2021–22, implemented on November 17, 2021, was canceled in September 2022 due to corruption allegations. According to investigating agencies, the policy led to monopolization and provided economic advantages to individuals ineligible for liquor licenses. The Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate are actively probing the alleged Delhi Liquor Scam, which has resulted in multiple arrests, including those of Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh. Notably, the Supreme Court of India recently denied bail to Sisodia, citing a tentative money trail of Rs 338 crore in the case.
