In a heartwarming ceremony held at the secretariat, Chief Minister MK Stalin recognized the exceptional contributions of Tamil Nadu’s artisans. On Tuesday, he presented lifetime achievement awards to eight distinguished artisans and Poompuhar awards to ten others, celebrating their dedication and remarkable achievements in the field of handicrafts.
The lifetime achievement award recipients included:
N Balakrishnan from Kanchipuram
S Govindaraj and K P Umapathy from Thanjavur
S Rajagopal and Sulaikal Beevi from Tirunelveli
N Mani from Thiruvannamalai
C Muthuswami and S Thanga Jothi from Kanniyakumari
The Poompuhar awards were presented to:
C Ravi, C Nagalakshmi, R Loganathan, and M Murugesan from Thanjavur
M Rajappa from Pudukkottai
N Poovammal and S Lilly Mary from Kanniyakumari
P Varadhan and M Rajarathinam from Chengalpattu
R Sakthivel from Kallakuruchi
In addition to celebrating these artisans, Chief Minister Stalin inaugurated new buildings for government arts and science colleges and polytechnic colleges across three districts. These new facilities, constructed at a total cost of Rs 52.75 crore, are located in Pudukkottai, Tiruchy, and Namakkal districts, with an additional building at the Government Polytechnic College for Women in Coimbatore.
This dual initiative of honoring artisans and enhancing educational infrastructure underscores the Tamil Nadu government's commitment to preserving cultural heritage while fostering educational development.
